• Originally tied to the fishing trade, the railway was built to transport goods, but the market stayed — creating today’s fascinating scene.

Wat Bang Kung (Bot Prok Po)

• The tree roots act like natural pillars, wrapping around the structure for centuries.

Amphawa Floating (Riverside) Market

• Open only Friday–Sunday, Amphawa is smaller and more authentic compared to Damnoen Saduak.

• Rich history dating back to the 17th century, when locals traded along the river.

• Expect wooden riverside restaurants, food stalls, and some vendors cooking from boats.

• Must-try local specialties: seafood, sweets, Thai desserts, tropical fruit, and street snacks.

• Atmosphere is lively yet still popular among locals — a true foodie haven.

• A highlight of Amphawa is an evening boat trip.

• Cruise along the canal lined with traditional wooden houses.

Important Notes

• Don’t expect an entire market of vendors in boats. Amphawa is more of a canal-side food market with some floating stalls.

• In Thai, “talat nam” means “water market”, but here it’s better to imagine a riverside street market.

• Still, Amphawa remains one of the most beloved weekend markets for Thai people because of its food and atmosphere.
